realistic thinking. During the last few years I ve heard a lot about the benefits of have a positive attitude. This is great and I'm a strong believer in positive self talk. The important thing to remember is that in order for this to work you must be able to identify when something is BIG and when something is just a blip in the wider scheme of things. Thats what I mean about putting things into perspective. OK so think about this: -
"Its 6am on a bleak Monday morning in January. Outside its dark, cold, blowing a gale and pouring with rain. To top it all you have 25 miles miles to drive to work! So realistically you are likely to be suffering from a mild form of 'seasonal affective disorder' or more commonly known as 'winter blues' as you step into the shower. Buy hey this is reality! The positive attitude kicks in when you remember that in a couple of months it will be spring. This means lighter mornings and evenings, buds on the trees, spring sunshine and you will start to experience that feel good factor that can be forgotten in the depths of winter.
Hey Carol,
ReplyDeleteThat projected thinking of "it only gets better from here" really works. I do a lot of flipping the problem these days both for myself and with the clients. Flipping the problem breaks the block and allows is to seek out solutions.
It does work you are right. It always helps to put some realism into the equation and solutions become easier to find x
ReplyDeleteWhile we all have our ups and downs, I have always been a positively tuned person. The last three years have been quite a challenge however, as I now have 2 children with someone who is a bit of a worry wart. If I even waver in the least bit from my way of thinking, I have seen a lack of positivity in our lives.
ReplyDeleteWith two small girls, I know now that there is no other way to be but positive.
Thanks for putting things in perspective Carol.
Success to you with the life coaching!
Best,
R$ Blessed
Ronnie you are clearly a very strong person. This is a clear example of how important it is to put things into perspective. Life can often been a challenge as you have experienced and by being realistic you have been able to remain positive. Good to hear from you.
